IN CONVERSATION WITH: INTERIOR DESIGNER,
ABIGAIL WATSON

AT HOME WITH A.LONDON | July 2026

In this edition of In Conversation With, we meet Abigail Watson, one of the newest Interior Designers to join A.LONDON.

From her passion for timeless materials and thoughtful design to the places and experiences that inspire her creativity, Abigail shares her journey, her design philosophy and what she's most looking forward to as she begins this exciting new chapter with our team.

Welcome to A.LONDON, Abigail! Tell us a little about your journey into interior design. Was there a defining moment that made you realise this was the career for you?

Thank you! I'm so pleased to be part of the amazing A.LONDON team. My passion for interior design began during my time at university. It was there that I experienced the excitement of seeing my ideas and designs come to life for the first time. It made me realise how much I loved creating beautiful, thoughtful spaces and inspired me to pursue a career in interior design.

Every designer has a different way of approaching a new project. What is the first thing you look for when starting?
For me, it always starts with a conversation with the client to understand how they want to live in the space. I like to get a clear picture of their lifestyle, routines, and how they use their home day to day. From there, I look at the architecture and any existing features that should be celebrated, allowing the design to evolve in a way that feels both personal and timeless.

How would you describe your own design style, and how do you balance that with creating interiors that are completely tailored to each client?
I naturally gravitate towards warm, timeless interiors with lots of texture, beautiful natural materials and a calm, cosy atmosphere. I use my aesthetic as a base, but every decision goes hand-in-hand with the character of the property and the client's tastes, so each property is completely unique while still having a sense of longevity.

What are some of the places, people or experiences that influence your creativity outside of the design world?
I find that some of the best ideas come from everyday experiences outside of the design world. Living in London, I'm constantly inspired by the city's architecture, from its historic buildings to contemporary design. I also love observing street style and the way people express themselves through fashion. Visiting galleries such as the Saatchi and the V&A is another great source of inspiration, as is travelling and experiencing different cultures, architecture and craftsmanship.

Joining a new studio is always exciting. What attracted you to A.LONDON, and what are you most looking forward to working on?

Having worked internationally for much of my career, I was keen to focus on projects here in the UK. A.LONDON really stood out to me because of its strong reputation and collaborative approach to design. I am especially looking forward to working with our wonderful private clients. We have some exciting work in the pipeline, so stay tuned!

Interior design is often about solving problems as much as creating beautiful spaces. What's your favourite challenge to tackle within a project?
Smaller-scale projects can be both a blessing and a challenge, but I really enjoy finding clever solutions to make the most of the available space and maximise potential. It's incredibly rewarding to transform a compact space into one that feels functional, spacious and beautifully considered.

What does your design process typically look like and where do you find the most creative momentum?
Following the brief, I like to start with a morning focused on fabrics and my saved favourite artworks. I pull together samples from my hidden drawer and then visit showrooms to find new pieces that fill the gaps and complement the artwork colours.

If you could design any property in the world, regardless of budget or location, what would it be and why?
I'd love to design a restored period home in the English countryside. There's something incredibly rewarding about preserving the character and history of a building while introducing contemporary comfort and functionality. I also love sourcing vintage pieces that add character, tell a story and give a home a truly unique feel.

Which city do you think offers the greatest design inspiration, and what keeps drawing you back to it?

I am absolutely obsessed with Copenhagen. I love its understated approach to design, where simplicity, craftsmanship and functionality are valued just as much as aesthetics. There's a real appreciation for beautiful proportions and natural materials, which really aligns with my own design philosophy. I came away feeling incredibly inspired by the architecture, interiors and the way thoughtful design is so seamlessly woven into everyday life.

Outside of the studio, how do you recharge your creativity?

Outside of the studio, I enjoy painting to switch off and recharge creatively. I also love going to pottery classes with friends and creating pieces for my home. Working with different materials is a great creative outlet and sparks new ideas.

What is one piece of design advice you think every homeowner should know before beginning a renovation or furnishing project?

I would say investing in the things that are difficult to change, such as flooring, bathrooms, joinery and quality materials. Furnishings and accessories can evolve over time, but the foundations of your home should be timeless and built to last.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about, both personally and professionally, as you begin this next chapter with A.LONDON?

I'm excited to keep developing as a designer, learning from the team at A.LONDON and contributing to a diverse range of projects. Personally, I'm looking forward to building on my experience while continuing to find inspiration through travel, art and design.
