IN CONVERSATION WITH:
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, KARIS SAMUELSON_

AT HOME WITH A.LONDON July 2020

Bridging the gap between our clients and designers, we have a dedicated team who assist in providing our clients with a complete tailored experience when using our award-winning services. We sat down with our Associate Director, Karis Samuelson to discuss all things interiors, including her favourite style, project and what makes A.LONDON stand out from other interior design studios.

What is a typical day like as an Associate Director at A.LONDON?

A typical day involves varied client and project management. Mornings will be spent following up with a variety of projects from investors to developers and agents to private clients. As well as my day-to-day roles I am also part of internal meetings with a broad spectrum of topics, anything from our social media accounts to new suppliers and our sustainability drive. It’s a very eclectic role and whilst many of us share the same job title, no two Associate Directors are the same. We all lend our unique skills where they’re needed.

“We have such a dynamic design team that really lend their individual creativity to each project. No two are the same.”

Karis Samuelson
Associate Director.

Do you have a favourite A.LONDON project and why?

I absolutely love our Miami inspired luxury rental project, The W1 Townhouse. From the outside, the property still maintains its rather elegant Marylebone façade but once you step inside you really feel transported to a vibrant heaven on Collins Avenue. The double-height ceilings are enhanced with incredible artwork by Nat Bowen, neon signs and a palm tree casually placed in the dining area. The furniture pieces, which you can also purchase from Bazaar, are bold and contemporary but offer a real sense of comfort.

What makes A.LONDON stand out from other interior design studios?

I would have to say our team diversity. We have such a dynamic design team that really lend their individual creativity to each project. No two are the same. We don’t have a signature style per se, allowing us the freedom to create thoughtful, innovative style lead projects, whilst reflecting on the brief.

Where is your favourite location in London to site visit and why?

I really admire the Nash terraced houses around Regents Park. From the outside, they are uniformly elegant and imposing, but no two homes are the same. The properties always range from unmodernised and retaining their original features, to extraordinary and unique interiors. Not to mention the fact they are Grade I listed, giving off a real sense of Regency vibes.

What is your favourite interior style?

At the moment I am obsessed with the Desert Modern interior trend. There’s something quite dystopian and futuristic about the architecture. The natural tones and simplicity mixed with Spanish colonial style is just beautiful. Ask me on another day however and I’ll probably say modern industrial!
